Hudson Bay Summit 2022
ABOUT
The 2022 Hudson Bay Summit took place in Montreal from November 29, 2022 – December 1, 2022. The Summit brought together Inuit and Cree community members, regional organizations and all levels of government from around Hudson Bay and James Bay to discuss environmental stewardship of the region, including progress made to date and future actions to be taken.
SEARCH & RESCUE AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE
During the Roundtable at the 2022 Hudson Bay Summit, community members called for the development of emergency response plans that help protect the land, water, wildlife and hunters traveling on the land. In response, the Consortium Secretariat commissioned two reports to provide an overview of the Search & Rescue (SAR) and Environmental Response systems in the region, and identify recent progress and challenges. A case is made for establishing a SAR Working Group within the Hudson Bay Consortium. Interviews with community members guided the development of both reports.
